Rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping surgery that improves balance between your nose and other facial features. It can also correct breathing-related structural problems when required.
The best rhinoplasty outcome is subtle and believable. The goal is not to copy a template nose, but to create a profile that suits your face, ethnicity, and personal aesthetic.

How It Works
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by modifying bone, cartilage, and soft tissue. The outcome depends heavily on skin thickness, cartilage strength, prior surgery history, and — most importantly — how well the surgical plan fits the individual face. There is no single ideal nose shape.
Open rhinoplasty uses a small incision across the columella (the strip between the nostrils) giving the surgeon direct visibility of the cartilage framework. Closed rhinoplasty keeps all incisions inside the nostrils — no external scar, but more limited access. The approach is chosen based on the complexity of the correction, not patient preference alone.
South Asian noses typically have thicker skin, a flatter or lower bridge, and a wider, less projected tip. Thick skin limits how much tip refinement is visible externally — a point that is important to understand before surgery. Ethnic rhinoplasty in this context focuses on improving balance while preserving the identity of the face, not replicating a Western nose shape.
A deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, or a narrow nasal valve can cause chronic obstruction. Septorhinoplasty addresses both the external shape and the internal structure in a single surgery. Performing both together is generally preferable to staging them, as the structural correction can influence the aesthetic reshaping decisions.
The nasal cast is removed at 10–14 days, after which the major shape is visible — though swollen. About 70–80% of the final result is apparent within 6 weeks. The tip, which swells the most, continues refining until 9–12 months post-surgery. Photographs taken at the one-year mark best represent the final outcome.
Revision surgery is significantly more complex than primary rhinoplasty due to scar tissue, altered anatomy, and possible cartilage loss. It requires careful pre-operative planning and realistic expectations. This is one reason why the quality of the initial surgery matters greatly — most revision rhinoplasties are corrections of previous work done elsewhere.
Rhinoplasty improves the nose — it does not make it perfect. Small asymmetries, residual swelling, and minor irregularities are common and normal. Computer simulations are planning tools, not guaranteed outcomes. Patients who understand the limits of the surgery and trust the process tend to have the highest satisfaction.

Refine lower cartilage support to create a cleaner, better-defined tip that still looks authentic.
Nostril base narrowing can reduce flaring and bring better facial proportion in front-facing photos.
Structural correction can improve midline alignment and symmetry after trauma or developmental deviation.
When needed, septal correction is combined to improve airflow along with external reshaping.
Revision rhinoplasty addresses unresolved concerns from previous surgery with careful tissue planning.
Technique selection depends on your anatomy, surgical goals, and whether breathing correction is needed. Dr. Dushyanth recommends the safest, most stable method for your case.
Best for: Minor to moderate shape correction
Incision approach: All incisions hidden inside the nostrils
Recovery profile: Most patients back to routine in 7-10 days
Best for: Complex tip or structural reshaping
Incision approach: Small columellar incision + internal incisions
Recovery profile: Mild swelling can persist longer than closed approach
Best for: Shape correction with breathing issues
Incision approach: Chosen based on internal anatomy and goals
Recovery profile: Functional breathing relief as healing settles
Best for: Previous rhinoplasty requiring correction
Incision approach: Customized approach, often open for visibility
Recovery profile: Slower due to scar tissue and prior surgery
Rhinoplasty recovery is gradual and predictable with proper care. The first week focuses on comfort and protection, while final definition appears over several months.
What You Can Do
What to Avoid
Tip: Swelling and bruising are expected early and improve rapidly once the splint is removed.
What You Can Do
What to Avoid
Tip: Tip swelling settles more slowly than bridge swelling. This is normal.
What You Can Do
What to Avoid
Tip: Your profile looks significantly better, but subtle definition continues to improve.
What You Can Do
What to Avoid
No major restrictions at this stage.
Tip: Final rhinoplasty outcome is judged at around one year, especially for tip refinement.

Mitigation: Expected in early healing and managed with elevation, cold compresses, and scheduled follow-ups.
Mitigation: Internal swelling can block airflow initially; saline care and time usually resolve this.
Mitigation: Precise pre-op planning and careful structural adjustments reduce asymmetry risk.
Mitigation: Incisions are tiny and placed strategically; scars generally fade to fine lines.
Mitigation: Thorough planning, realistic goals, and expert technique lower revision probability.
Serious complications are extremely rare when performed by an experienced surgeon in an accredited facility. Dr. Dushyanth will discuss all potential risks in full detail during your consultation.
