Eyelid Surgery

Droopy eyelids make one look older and sometimes it can also impair the vision. Droopy eyelids are formed as a result of the constant force of gravity, volume loss, constant stretching of the skin, loss of skin elasticity and excess use of the muscles of the lower and upper eyelids. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty provides a rejuvenated look and makes one look less worn and tired. Eyelid surgery can be performed on both lower and upper eyelids, and involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscles from the target areas. This surgery also helps to correct ptosis and repair the malpositioned eyelids, formed as a result of aging, trauma, disease, defects during surgery.

This surgery also corrects the droopiness and puffiness of the eyes by removing the under-eye bags. Sometimes the dark circles formed due to under-eye bags can be improved with this surgery. Before eyelid surgery

Before the surgery, the surgeon evaluates the patient's complete medical history. Patient’s vision is also tested and tear production is also assessed. The surgeon also evaluates the patient's bone structure, underlying facial muscle structure and strength, the symmetry of the patient’s eyebrows, skin type and how much of fat, skin and muscles (patient goals) will be removed during the surgery.

One has to follow the guidelines as directed by the surgeon and must stop smoking, alcohol consumption, and should also avoid the consumption of certain vitamin supplements, herbs, and medications that can impair the healing process during the recovery period.

Procedure of eyelid surgery

The procedure will take 30 to 90 minutes. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and general or local anaesthesia is administered. The skin is cleaned with disinfectant and markings are made to display the area from where the excess tissue needs to be removed. During the surgery, the surgeon will correct the lower or upper eyelid depending upon the changes required. The upper eyelid is addressed first and the surgeon will make a small cut and remove the excess skin muscles and fat that causes the droopy eyelids. Sometimes the tissues are also re-positioned around the surrounding areas of the eyes before closing the incision.

Then in the lower eyelid, an incision is made and excess skin and fat that contribute to the formation of under-eye bags are removed. The incision is made inside or outside in the lower eyelashes. The eyelid surgery cost in Hyderabad also varies according to the type of correction required by the patient.

The incision of the surgery is very tiny and they are strategically placed in the natural crease of the face in the upper eyelids and in the natural line below the lower eyelashes.
