Shaving frequently can result in ingrown hair and cuts and waxing is painful and can also leave the skin irritated. When the body hair is excessive, darker, and appears in places that make one uncomfortable than they must be reconsidered about their traditional hair removals options like plucking, waxing, shaving, electrolysis, and epilators. All these procedures are painful, messy, and offer only temporary solutions.

Laser hair reduction has gained popularity in the last 50 to 80 years and is considered as a far more effective solution for removing unwanted body hair and offers long-lasting results. The laser rays destroy the hair follicle and result in reducing hair growth.  The laser gives smooth and clear skin and also reduces the risk of ingrown hair and skin irritation. Laser hair reduction treats unwanted hair growth on all body areas like legs, thighs, bikini area, tummy, back, chin, upper lips, chest, hands, and underarm area. The lasers prevent the growth of the hair follicles by damaging the melanin with thermal energy. This melanin is responsible for giving the hair its color and it naturally absorbs the laser light. The light emitted by the laser is absorbed by the dark pigment present in the hair follicles and cause damage to the hair follicle.

During the consultation period, the skin specialist evaluates the skin and another medical history of the individual. During the procedure, the numbing cream is applied about 30 minutes before the laser hair procedure this helps to manage skin discomfort during the procedure. The area to be treated is shaved and cleaned. The specialist provides special glasses to protect the eyes from the strong laser emission. The cooling gel is applied to the skin surface and the probe attached to the lasers cools the skin and constancy measures the skin resistance to ensure that the patient is comfort comfortable and safe during the treatment. The laser device is adjusted according to the thickness of the hair, hair color, and skin tone and is also adjusted depending upon the location of the body from where the hair has to be removed.  For a small fraction of second, the laser is emitted and this allows the hair to absorb the light this results in the heating up of the hair follicles. As a result, the bulb of the hair root and hair shaft is damaged, and the hair follicle is not able to regrow and results in permanent hair reduction over time. The treatment sounds painful, but practically it is not painful as the cooling mechanism is in-build in the probe.

During treatment sessions, one should limit waxing, plucking, threading, epilating for about three to four weeks as the laser targets the hair roots. Waxing and plucking remove the hair root which does not provide good results.
